Former Presidents Saint Shem and Wusmeinia Face off in Re-Election Bid
by United States of Natan
Former Presidents Saint Shem and Wusmeinia have challenged each other in historic re-election bids as polls open today in the Natan Region for the General Election. Both Presidents, who served as the First and Second Presidents of the Natan Region respectively, have not yet commented on the situation, nor has incumbent President Slarvainian, who has opted to run for Congress instead of re-election this time, spoken to the Natan Region Report about the unprecedented situation, but all three have been reached for comment. This scenario is unique, as the region has never had a situation where two presidents, both of whom are not currently sitting in the position, are running against each other for re-election. The election today is expected to be a very close race between the two Presidents.
President Saint Shem, a member of the Democratic Party, served two full terms as the First President of the Natan Region from November 10, 2015 to May 10, 2016. He was then succeeded by President Wusmeinia, then a democrat, who served 8 days as President before resigning in disgrace due to his support of Shemiki in the Shemikigate scandal, and fled the region. He was then succeeded by President United Kingdoms of America. Wusmeinia currently serves as Speaker of Congress, and is a member of the New Conservative Party. Saint Shem was recently tried on accusations of being a Shemiki puppet, before charges were dropped after new evidence was revealed.
Update:
Speaker Wusmeinia, in a response to our request, stated, "It is heartening to to see that saint shem has returned to the region. He is by far the most qualified candidate I can run against. And I must say, it is interesting to see that we have an election between two former Presidents, one which I believe by many is considered the best we've ever had."
In a response to our request, Former President Saint Shem stated, "I'd just like to say that I'm excited to be running against someone who's participated as actively as Wusmeinia. I think this is going to be a close election, and I think no matter who wins the region will be served well."
Incumbent President and congressional candidate Slarvainian has not yet responded to a request for comment.
